Even after two centuries of becoming a more reasonable civilisation, Terran humans still retain many of their fears, hatreds and vendettas with them into the interstellar arena. Many of the racial, political or religious reasons that fanatics undertake violence, terrorism and even war still exist in the late 22nd century. With the development of new technologies and their moral and ethical impacts on society, new opinionated groups form that may coalesce to become organisations capable of violence and even terrorism through it’s more radical members.

Contact with alien races have even helped crystallise movements into wider vision of purpose, that includes taking action against a particular alien race due to their philosophies, lifestyle, technology or government policies.

Terrans are not the only race prone to such actions. The Aronhi are well known to have such dramatic internal differences in view. They just seem more comfortable with the public escalation to violence, even war if so required to assert their viewpoint as right.

Even the high and mighty Grey Andorians are almost as factionated as Terrans. Fortunately for most of their neighbours and Coalition partners, they are less prone to carrying out acts of violence, preferring the disagreement to stand for centuries and be an identity quality about a particular community. Violence in the form of localised war has been known to break out when a community splits into a new one as internal viewpoints have gotten too strained and they fight over who gains the assets.

RAGE

Revolt Against Genetic Engineering

Founded: 1998

Membership: 20,000+

Originally founded in New Zealand during the late 1990’s as a campaign group against the genetic engineering of food products, where animal DNA was inserted into plant DNA to give better consumer traits.

RAGE grew into a global organisation as many purists became outraged at the proliferation of gene tampering throughout the 21st century. Like efforts made by many conservation groups in the past, some RAGE members took direct action into their own hands, often resulting in violent conflicts with local authorities.

With contact with the Aratani, many RAGE members were horrified with the impunity with which Aratani conducted genetic engineering projects. Many violent demonstrations, sabotage and clashes with Martian Police units were common around many Aratani facilities.

In 2132 several radicals went so far as to begin a bombing campaign of smaller Aratani facilities after a RAGE intrusion team into Cydonia was never heard from again. Although the bombers were uncovered, similar events continued for the next decade.

During the Martian Wars the American intelligence community identified RAGE as a potential tool in their war to regain control over Mars and strike a blow at Aratani resources. To that end, the CIA and other undisclosed agencies trained RAGE fanatics in covert military tactics, terrorism and other assorted military skill areas. With full supply support from American forces, RAGE became quite an effective terrorist movement against the Aratani.

Unfortunately for RAGE, the Americans didn’t win the war and RAGE were not prepared for sustained operations without a supply base on Mars. Eventually most of the RAGE activities on Mars were suppressed soon after the war by a protracted termination campaign by Aratani Intelligence Assassins. From 2147 onwards RAGE membership was banned on Mars by Confederation law following a huge majority vote by the Martian populace.

Although thwarted by Martian efforts, RAGE still retained a core of talented individuals and resources to carry out effective terrorist activities. During the 2150’s, RAGE turned their attention to Earth bound (and some orbital) genetic engineering complexes.

After many destructive incidents, the New Zealand government sent the SAS in motion to storm RAGE headquarters and other offices worldwide (as joint operations with foreign governments) to seize assets, arrest it’s members involved in terrorism, and try to shut down their operations.

The New Zealand Parliament amended it’s laws concerning terrorism, and the High Court soon afterwards disbanded RAGE in 2157.

However RAGE was never effectively shut down and operates as an underground terrorist movement today.

RAGE still continues to attempt terrorist strikes against the Aratani primarily, although many Earthbound organisations are still subject to harassment.

With wider interstellar contact, RAGE has become a political hotcake since it has carried it’s terrorist activities on to those races responsible for tampering with Terra or humans, most notably the creation of the Daryne.

Although they frown on the Daryne, they are simply a product and lay the blame on the Forerunners for leaving sensitive information around for the Andorians to tamper with Terran genetic codes. Thus RAGE conducts terrorist actions against the Andorians, although with not much success in the Coalition itself since Black Andorian intelligence forces seem to catch wind of pending activities just in time to snip them in the bud.

Relations between the Coalition and the Terran Alliance have often been strained due to the inability of Terran governments to control such terrorist groups.

AIA

Aratani Intelligence Assassins

Founded: unknown

Personnel: unknown

Headquarters: Cydonia

Although the Aratani do not officially condone terrorism, they have been known to carry out termination missions with extreme prejudice which have a distinct flavour of terrorism tactics.

The AIA is a department of Aratani Intelligence, the intelligence arm of the Aratani Army, the community military force maintained by the cities of Cydonia, Elysium and other closed Aratani communities.

In effect the Aratani Army answers to the Cydonia city administrator, who is the is the commander of the various military divisions of Striker Industries Limited. Admiral Carson is well known to uses AIA as a weapon of last resort prior to a war footing against a perceived enemy.

During a war however, such as during the Martian Wars, AIA teams were used to carry out assassin and terrorism activities against American targets throughout the solar system.

Given AIA units have full Aratani military, corporate and technologic support, these teams are known to be highly dangerous, and most opponents who have been successful at defeating them have had to rely on tactical scale (and strategic in some cases) weapons to eliminate them.

Fortunately the AIA units only appear to have been deployed during the Martian Wars and the cleanup of RAGE terrorism on Mars in the 2150s.

Aronhi Special Operations

see older notes on this organisation.

It’s assassination arm has been used to carry out wide scale terrorism throughout the occupied territories. Unlike discrete assassinations of Stotatl targets, Special Ops don’t seem inhibited by taking out their own people at the same time during bombing campaigns if it serves their needs.

Stotatl IntSec

Commandos indoctrinated into IntSec are often used on deep penetration raids into foreign territory slated for absorption to carry out pure terrorist activities. The most notably was the recent widespread killings throughout the dock district of Melbourne.
