FSpaceRPG article

Status: Official

One of the things I’ve been wanting to do is undertake some minor interactive development projects to deliver some software for FSpace on both Macs and Windows.

Although I have some tools, I don’t have a complete suite to enable me do anything at this point.

With Realbasic I’d need to upgrade for several hundred US$ to the modern studio version.

With Runtime Revolution I have to upgrade for several hundred US$ because my current version is too old and is flaky on my machine (namely can’t get at certain menus).

With Filemaker 7 developer, I need Windows 2000 or XP.

And then I need a Windows environment. I have an older VPC with NT 4, but to be honest VPC is almost a dead duck and I’ll need to look at another solution.

In essence plans to deliver solutions around my programming and database skills is just not possible without further capital investment - capital I don’t have.

FSpace doesn’t generate enough revenue to cover even the expense of owning the domain name and the electricity bill for the web server - so I’m not sure what to do.

I’m afraid we could be facing another barrier which spells the death of the game.

Although I can deliver Mac solutions, it’s critical to be able to deliver Windows based solutions.

In the past I’ve asked those with Java skills to work on some things. We got some small work done, but nothing significant. No further demands can be placed on those who’ve done this in the past. And I don’t have the skills to pick up where they left off.

If anyone has any bright ideas, let me know.
