This photograph was taken at the Stardate Convention. Stardate is New Zealand’s main astronomy convention and has been running for well over a decade. I have been attending the North Island Stardate convention for a number of years. There is also a South Island Stardate convention which takes place near Staverly, on the Canterbury Plains.

Telescopes like this are quite common kit as part of outpost equipment as means of charting the stars and well as for viewing planetary phenomena at a distance. They can be equiped with a range of equipment using the viewpiece mount.
