A large 16’ dobsonian telescope with an open trusswork design.

This photograph was taken at the Stardate Convention. Stardate is New Zealand’s main astronomy convention and has been running for well over a decade. I have been attending the North Island Stardate convention for a number of years. There is also a South Island Stardate convention which takes place near Staverly, on the Canterbury Plains.

The Daryne are known to have built telescopes like this on Daryn. The largest of which is over 5 times this size and whose sensitivity rivaled those of Terran 20th century observatories.
